We needed to trim back our oak tree and also cut out all the dead branches. I got 4 quotes and not only was Joe the most competitive, but he was also the quickest in responding to my queries and answering all my questions. Joe came across as competent, professional and experienced, and very customer oriented. His team that did the job were friendly and efficient and careful in ensuring that branches did not fall into the neighbour’s garden. They took all branches away with them as agreed, and tidied up the garden afterwards. Even my neighbour gave positive feedback saying they did a “very neat and careful job”. And more importantly, the shape of the trimmed back oak tree is excellent and I am a happy customer.Posted on Google![]()

I had a problem with a very large red oak tree with a TPO, some evidence of disease and over hanging my neighbour's property. After acquiring planning permission to pollard the tree I obtained three quotes for the work.Joe's was the most competitive and he the most reactive. He used an impressive machine that clasped a limb and out popped a chain saw severing the branch. With a reach of 27 metres the machine reduced the red oak to the agreed size, transported the bulk timber off sited. tidied the garden. all in one day and with nothing dropping in my neighbour's garden. Joe and his teamed did an amazingly good job. He is very customer focused and quietly efficient. I thoroughly recommend him to you for your tree surgeon work. Graham WilloughbyPosted on Google![]()

We have just had Joe and the team back for the 3rd phase of the maintenance programme, and it was all completed to a very high standard, including a very comprehensive clean up as well. We'd highly recommend EH Arborists to anyone who may need tree work carried out in their own property. Ian and Elane VassPosted on Google![]()

What is a tree preservation order (TPO) application?
A Tree Preservation Order, or TPO, is a legal order made by a local council as a legal mechanism to protect a specific tree, group of trees, or woodland. Where a TPO is in place, you need the council’s written consent before pruning, felling, cutting roots or carrying out most other work on a TPO tree, even if it’s on your own land. Trees within a conservation area carry similar restrictions, and much of Hampshire’s most attractive countryside, including areas within the South Downs National Park, has extra protection layered on top.
A TPO application is the formal request submitted to the local planning authority asking for consent to carry out specified work. It needs to describe the tree, the proposed works, and the reason for it, and the council can refuse, approve, or approve with conditions. Permission may be granted subject to conditions. Working on a protected tree without consent is a criminal offence, and deliberate damage in serious cases can lead to an unlimited fine, so it’s worth getting this right before any cutting starts.
This is a completely normal position for a homeowner to be in. Most people find out a tree is protected only when they try to get it worked on, and the process can feel daunting the first time. We handle it for clients regularly and can take the whole thing off your hands, while making sure the order protecting trees of local amenity importance is properly respected.
Our process
Check protection status
We confirm whether your tree is covered by a TPO, sits in a conservation area, or falls within the South Downs National Park's own controls.for TPOs or planning constraints, and email a detailed, no-obligation quote.
Site survey
We assess the tree and the work you want carried out, and advise honestly on whether it's likely to be approved, including where input from a qualified tree surgeon will help support the site survey and improve the chances of approval.
Valid application submitted
We prepare and submit a valid application to your local planning authority on your behalf.
Council decision
Most councils have a statutory period to respond. We monitor this and liaise with them if further detail is requested to confirm the application is valid, and where relevant we track consultation with local residents or if a neighbour submits comments.
Approved work carried out
Once consent is granted, our own qualified team carries out the work exactly as approved, in line with any conditions where permission is granted subject to them.
